Frequently Asked Questions
What are the maintenace requirements of the AutoScreen?
AutoScreens require almost no maintenance. The only moving part is the screen. We recommend that a set of exit heaters are kept on hand. The AutoScreen controller comes with heater amp draw indicators so you can visually inspect heater performance. After a number of years of operation, the screen inlet adjustable wedge may become worn and need replacing. The water cooled inlet and outlet blocks have access ports for cleaning. The cleaning frequency depends on the hardness of your cooling water. Most customers find that a cleaning every five years is sufficient.
Can I integrate the AutoScreen controls into my extruder panel or PLC?
Yes, the AutoScreen controls are quite simple and straight forward. We supply customers with electrical prints. The AutoScreen customer can use the standard AutoScreen controls which are housed in a premium air and moisture tight enclosure or they can elect to have the electronics shipped loose for installing in their existing extruder panel, or they can take delivery with no controls and integrate the AutoScreen into their extruder computer or PLC.
What style of breaker plate does the AutoScreen use?:
AutoScreens use a breaker plate which is similar in design to most extruder breaker plates. It is not an integral part of the screenchanger but is housed in a sleeve. The AutoScreen removable breaker plate is made from hardened steel and is reversible for long life.
What about polymer leaks?
AutoScreens are made from one solid piece of steel so there is absolutely no possibility of leaks.
How fine a filtration can be achieved with AutoScreen?
Typically, the finest screen mesh used in an AutoScreen is a 250/40 Dutch twill weave which is equivalent to a particle size retention of 75 microns.
How do I fit the AutoScreen into my existing extrusion line set up?
AutoScreens are very compact in design and can be installed with a minimum increase in axial length. If you supply us with your extruder exit flange dimensions and your die or melt pump flange dimensions, we can then provide you with the adapters you require for an easy, just bolt it together installation.
